The SplendOrkest is a collection of top Amsterdam musicians from various genres, who together run the Splendor Club –a meeting place, clubhouse, stage and laboratory for people from every nook and cranny of the musical world.
The endlessly inventive master Mehmet Polat and the dynamic Nada Mahmoud (the exciting revelation of the 2018 Ud Festival) join SplendOrkest’s resident player, the young Syrian top talent Jawa Manla.
Together they bring three different approaches to one of the oldest stringed instruments in the world, combining contemporary jazz, classical and improvised music in a unique collaboration, especially for this concert, that takes the ud to previously unknown places.
Renowned ud player, composer and bandleader Mehmet Polat heads his own quartet, and integrates diverse traditions into his music, from African to Indian, and from Persian to Balkan.
Tunisian ud player Nada Mahmoud belongs to a unique young generation of female ud players from the Arab world, and is known for the intensity of her performances and her inventive, dynamic style.
The Tunisian ud player Nada Mahmoud is not able to travel to the Netherlands due to the current COVID-19 measures. The programme with the SplendOrkest will be performed with the Turkish-Dutch ud player Mehmet Polat.
